The patient benefits for another reason, a more happy group of anesthesia care team members. "My mother had a stroke two years ago and I had to leave work right away, and we were able to pull anesthetists, both AAs and CRNAs, from different areas while I was gone," recalls Lester. "The patients had the same level of care. When something happens of that magnitude you feel much better if you can find someone to cover for you. You can also help somebody else when they have a crisis. It makes things better for the patient, because the caregiver is happier and supported. When you have happy caregivers, you are going to have happy patients."
