Accreditation

The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) is the largest programmatic accreditor in the health sciences field with over 2000 education programs in 20 health sciences occupations. CAAHEP is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization.

CAAHEP works in collaboration with 16 Committees on Accreditation (CoA) that represent the appropriate health science discipline to review and accredit educational programs. The CoAs work in cooperation with CAAHEP by managing the accreditation process in their respective professions and then forwarding their recommendations for accreditation to CAAHEP. The CoAs are also responsible for providing CAAHEP with the draft language for the Standards and Guidelines for their specific profession.

The Accreditation Review Committee for the Anesthesiologist Assistant (ARC-AA) is the CoA that represents Anesthesiologist Assistants. It serves under the auspices of CAAHEP to enhance patient safety by promoting and advancing the quality of educational programs for anesthesiologist assistants.

If the program you are looking for does not appear here, it is not currently accredited by CAAHEP. The CAAHEP Board of Directors meets up to six times each calendar year for the purpose of reviewing accreditation recommendations, and the list of accredited programs is continually updated.
